Case Study: Foley Playback System
Our brief was to supply a flyable playback system based around an iConectivity PlayAudio12 interface to Auckland based pop band Foley. The rig needed to be as light as possible and reliable, the band does not currently travel with a tech. It was required to interface seamlessly with the current generation of Apple MacBook Pros.
The finished product features dual USB-C ports to interface with a pair of laptops. As well as data connections, these ports also provide charging capabilities for the computers. Audio output from the PlayAudio are on XLR connectors for the most flexibility. Power to the rack is provided via a locking connector and power supplies are universal allowing the rack to be used worldwide with no step down transformer required.
Removable perspex on the top of the inner case allows for ventilation, access for servicing and visual indication should any troubleshooting be required. Front and rear panel work was personalised with Foley’s branding. The total weight of the rig came to 9.24kg.
